Choice Bro 99 is Merrick & Rosso's latest live act which was on at Newtown RSL at the end of October. The following little piece is from Sydney Morning Herald's 'Metro'–Oct22-28, and I thought it was pretty funny. Merrick explains that the show is called 'Choice Bro 99' in honour of someone who 'Choice Bro'd' him inappropriately:

"People use honky bro-ism and I just don't like it. Look, black people are the only ones who can do jive talk. Otherwise it's ridiculous. We were inspired by the title 'Choice Bro' after I was in the official Men's room at a rock venue, when someone bro'd me. I was sure they weren't from New Zealand, but I bro'd em back anyway. And then [incredulous] he choice bro'd me. He said "Choice, ay bro". Now that....is inappropriate bro-ism".

I went and saw Choice Bro on October 30, and I must say I was extremely impressed. Highlights of the show included a prank call to Planet Hollywood—by a 19 year old who thought he'd left his 'I love Jesus' cardigan there while celebrating his birthday with mates from Mt Druitt Tafe. Another call was made to an Irish pub where Merrick checked if the dress code would allow him to wear leather shorts, a vest 'with holes in it', German military cap, boots, and a collar with studs. There were also some funny prank letters—one to Nesquick from a little kid suggesting new flavours such as avocado, chicken, and Milo. Another one was written to the Bic company, by a person who'd developed an unhealthy addiction to chewing the blue "plugs" from the ends of pens.

I thought the whole show was a riot, but my very favourite part—where I literally had tears streaming down my face—was Merrick's story about a woman in a Bali supermarket trying to get her daughter Sharon to try on a sarong. VERY bloody funny!
